As the concrete supplier, Tilcon is part of a massive revitalization of Connecticut’s Capital City of Hartford and the region. Tilcon has supplied approximately 80,000 yards of concrete to date from their plant located in the heart of Hartford for the Connecticut Convention Center and adjacent Marriot Hotel, two components of the Adriaen’s Landing development plan. Led by the Capital City Economic Development Authority (CCEDA), the other components of this development plan include The Connecticut Center for Science and Exploration, an enhanced Riverfront and a residential, retail and entertainment district.
Under construction since 2000, the Adriaen’s Landing site is being developed in an area of 30-acres of land in downtown Hartford between Prospect Street, I-91, State Street and the Whitehead Highway. The centerpiece for the project is a state-of-the-art convention center overlooking the Connecticut River, which will include over 145,000 square feet of exhibition space; it will be the largest convention facility between New York and Boston. The Connecticut Convention Center will open June 1st and the Marriott will open in July.
Tilcon was the concrete supplier for the new Rentschler field (UCONN Football stadium), which opened in East Hartford on July 29, 2003. The opening of the new field was a high point in the efforts to revive the Hartford area.
Tilcon is supplying the concrete for these other notable Hartford development projects: the Riverfront Recapture pedestrian walkway and the Columbus Boulevard Bridge, the Riverfront Park expansion and new boathouse, Morgan Street parking garage, the new Trumbull Center, Capital Community College in the old G. Fox building and Stowe Village, local residential development projects.
